As an experiment, I'm going to make development builds of Decloner available for download in this topic. If you have bought Decloner directly from PixelEspresso, it will accept your registration, otherwise it'll work as a fully-functional trial version for 30 days. This build is not for mission-critical use, as it definitely will have bugs and unfinished features. Also it may be built using pre-release development tools on a pre-release version of OS X. It may corrupt your data, trash your system and set your cables on fire (just kidding about the last one). Still, if you are brave enough to download and use it, I'd appreciate any feedback.

I'm scanning folders with several thousand files and once I scroll down to display files that are below the initial window view I'm getting large numbers of horizontal lines across the display window - enough that they're masking out some of the text and making it difficult to see the results. Any suggestions on how to clean up the display? (Is there way to upload a screenshot?)

			Admin,
I have some very deep folder structures so even using decloner on a 27" iMac with the window maxed I still cannot move the Name adjuster but so far. I do not need the count or size columns as large and DO NEED the name column completely sizable. There is a Max you have on it and it stops before I can read the entire file path name.

Please fix this. Great product by the way. Saved me GB of storage after an assistant filled my hard drive with nonsense duplicates. Thanks

The display lines as you scroll down are a nuisance, but generally speaking I'm enjoying using Decloner. Unfortunately it is repeatedly freezing as the files are being moved to the trash. Maybe this App is only for those who know what they're doing!

So far Decloner has been a life saver for me!! I've found and separated 66GB of duplicate RAW and JPG images. Thank you!!

When I look in the folders I have "decloned", I still see thousands of near-duplicate files - similar name (close enough for the SHA-1 cryptographic algorithm to determine if files are identical) but the file sizes are different. I think it's from photos being in iPhoto and Aperture - both apps have wound up giving me different file sizes. Here's an example...

IMG_4420 - 2011-01-09 at 19-27-51 (1).JPG (4MB)
IMG_4420 - 2011-01-09 at 19-27-51.jpg (7MB)
IMG_4421 - 2011-01-09 at 19-27-51 (1).JPG (4MB)
IMG_4421 - 2011-01-09 at 19-27-51.jpg (7MB)
IMG_4422 - 2011-01-09 at 19-27-52 (1).JPG (4MB)
IMG_4422 - 2011-01-09 at 19-27-52.jpg (7MB)

Decloner isn't seeing these as duplicates.

Is there a filter or command that I can use to find and remove the smaller (4MB) duplicates from the example above?

Many thanks!

Jason

I did successful (carefully checking the pattern among the 1000s of dups found) find and deletion of dup images. However, when I tried to refine focus on pair of image folders, I got list of "duplicates" that showed exact same filepath for each file. It's hard to see small differences in pathname, so I confirmed by looking carefully and by revealing actual file, labeling it and confirming its location and then revealing its so-called duplcate. They were EXACTLY the same file, just listed twice. I set up safe deletion and did two tests to see what would happen if I let decloner manage them. I have pref set to leave an alias behind (which did not seem to work with "delete selected" but did work with "delete marked"). I did a manual and a delete marked. In both cases, the only copy of that false dup file was deleted and no alias left behind. Even though the files were exactly the same, decloner chose one as "oldest" or "newest" and would delete--even though exactly same file, so no timestamp diff.

My big worry is that I didn't check previous deletions as well as I could or that decloner may have deleted some non dups.

what about decloner watching a folder for incoming files and only let them in, if they are not in the folder already? that way i could build up an archive (using hazel for example) and letting decloner decide if the file is not yet in the archive.
thanks for considering this.
ingvo

I am enjoying using Decloner after having bought it in the recent MU promo.
There is one thing I think it really needs: the option to choose a dominant folder. Let's say you are scanning two hard drives that you have been using a lot and there are copies of files of various ages that are spread randomly between them. At the moment Decloner asks you which duplicate you want to eliminate based purely on age. This means you can end up with folders on each disk that have half the files in them and you have to hunt them down and copy them across to reassemble the complete folder. If you could specify a dominant location in the scanning list it would save a lot of work.
It would also be useful to have the option to delete orphaned folders that have become empty because of duplicate removal.

TB

It appears that files larger than 4GB are displayed incorrectly in Decloner version 1.2. I had a pair of files in two different folders and each file was 4,566,603,485 bytes in size but Decloner claimed they were only 259.05MB in size which is 4096MB off - hence it appears that Decloner has a problem with large files.

Here is a copy/paste of what was in the Decloner window: -- oops can't copy/paste an entry in the Decloner window - but it does really say that it's 259.05 MB in size.

And here is what an "ls -l" command shows in a Terminal window:

bash-3.2$ ls -l HD*
-rw-r--r-- 1 xxx yyy 4566603485 Dec 19 18:58 HD.mp4

Any way around this?

-Bob

ps - any way to post images or do a copy/paste from a Decloner window??

pps -- both of the files are on a HFS+ Case Sensitive volume and the OS version is 10.6.6

Decloner moves files to Trash instead of deleting them. Networked drives don't have Trash and when deleting files via Finder the user gets a prompt that the files will be deleted immediately, but Decloner just silently fails. The next version will indicate is a file could not be deleted, and that file will remain in the list of duplicates.
